Most contractors go quiet the moment the deposit clears. Bay State Bath calls every active customer every single day — not to check a box, but because silence is how small concerns become big problems. Meet Claire, and find out why this two-minute call changes everything about the remodeling experience.
We Call Every Customer Every Day. No Other Bathroom Contractor In Greater Boston Does That.
Meet Claire. Her Entire Job Is Making Sure You’re Never Left Wondering.
By Jennifer Bylo, Owner & President, Bay State Bath
Let me tell you about Claire.
Claire is one of my customer service team members. And every single day — without exception — Claire calls every customer we’re actively working with. Doesn’t matter if it’s a one-day shower install or a five-day full bathroom remodel. Doesn’t matter if the job went perfectly or if there’s still an inspection pending. Every customer. Every day.
The call takes about two minutes. Sometimes less. Sometimes the customer doesn’t even pick up, and Claire just leaves a message. “Hey, just checking in. Everything good? We’ll talk tomorrow.”
That’s it. That’s the whole call.
And yet, customers mention it constantly. In reviews, in referrals, in conversations with our design consultants. “You guys actually called me every day. I couldn’t believe it.”
I believe it. Because I know what the alternative looks like.
What Most Contractors Do Instead
You sign a contract. You hand over a deposit. And then…silence.
Maybe you get a call when the materials arrive. Maybe you get a text the night before the install. But that stretch in between? You’re on your own. Wondering if your project is on track. Wondering if anyone is thinking about you. Googling the company name at 11 pm just to make sure they’re still in business.
I’ve heard this story from so many customers who came to us after being burned elsewhere. Weeks of crickets. No updates. No answers. Just waiting and hoping.
That’s not a communication problem. That’s a respect problem.
Why We Do It Differently
When I built Bay State Bath, I thought a lot about what it actually feels like to be a customer going through a bathroom remodel. Your bathroom is out of commission. Strangers are in your house. You’ve spent a significant amount of money on something you can’t fully control.
That’s stressful. Even when everything is going well, it’s stressful.
The least we can do is make sure you’re never left wondering what’s happening.
So here’s what our communication process actually looks like from start to finish.
- Within 48 hours of your salesperson turning in your file, you get a welcome call — a chance to double-check every detail before anything gets ordered.
- Materials are ordered within the first week. You get an update when they arrive.
- You get a firm install date — not an estimated window, an actual date — once everything is staged and ready.
- You get a call the night before we show up.
- And then every single day until the job is done and the final inspection is complete, Claire calls.
After that, we ask for a Google review. And we ask if you’d be willing to be a reference.
That’s the whole process. Start to finish. No gaps. No silence. No wondering.
What Daily Calls Actually Do
Here’s the thing about Claire’s calls that most people don’t think about. Yes, they keep customers informed. But they do something else too.
They give customers permission to say something.
A lot of people won’t call their contractor to raise a small concern. They don’t want to be difficult. They don’t want to seem like they’re complaining. So they sit on it. And a small concern becomes a bigger concern. And by the time it surfaces, it’s turned into a problem that’s a lot harder to fix.
Claire’s call eliminates that. When someone reaches out every day and asks, “Everything good?”, customers feel comfortable saying, “Actually, one small thing.” And we can deal with it right then, before it becomes anything more.
That’s not just good customer service. That’s smart project management.
You Shouldn’t Have To Chase Your Contractor
I know this level of communication isn’t standard in this industry. I know most companies don’t do it. And honestly? That’s exactly why we do.
When you spend your hard-earned money on a bathroom remodel, you shouldn’t have to chase anyone down for updates. You shouldn’t be left wondering. You shouldn’t feel like the moment you signed the contract, you became someone else’s problem.
You should feel like the most important project we’ve got going.
Because, as far as we’re concerned, you are.
